On Thursday 21st November, Crimson & Co held its 10th Alumni dinner. The prestigious location was the Savoy Hotel where Sir Winston Churchill entertained cabinet ministers whilst Parliament was in session. Dinner and discussions were held in the Pinafore room which housed photographs of British Prime Ministers dating back to Churchill.

Crimson & Co’s Matt York shared key insights from the client survey he conducted alongside the University of Manchester this summer, which asked ‘Is your organisational design limiting success?’ After excellent discussions across the group, Matt urged us not to forget the 4Cs when dealing with change:

  • Ensuring we give all those involved sufficient Clarity of the future through the vision
  • Considering whether existing structures and rewards are really driving people’s Commitment to this vision
  • Identifying and developing the Capability needed to achieve this vision
  • The 4th C was a reference to Jaffa Cakes

Jaffa cakes

Matt shared earlier that in his time running the Jaffa Cake factory for McVitie’s there was a long standing dispute about whether Jaffas are biscuits (which attract VAT in the UK), or cakes (which don’t). The fight was eventually won as Jaffas behave differently to all biscuits; if you leave them out of the packet they turn hard like a cake, not soft like a biscuit.

Matt used this analogy to encourage those present to think of the Jaffa Cake when considering change – proactively use organisational design to firm up future success, don’t behave like a biscuit and let your existing organisational design turn your plans soft!

Crimson & Co is delighted to announce sponsorship of the European Supply Chain and Logistics Summit on Wednesday 26th and Thursday 27th June 2013 in Berlin, Germany.

Now in its 15th Annual year, the summit focuses on next-generation supply chains; supporting growth through responsive and flexible strategies.

As part of the conference, Crimson & Co will present a workshop entitled ‘People capabilities as a driver for business improvement.’ During the workshop, Director Crispin Mair will explain how Crimson & Co successfully used the scprime® People Capabilities framework with global wine company, Accolade Wines, to identify the technical skills and knowledge required within their supply chain organisation and best alignment of people to roles. Crispin will also explain how Crimson & Co recently developed bespoke capability training which helped Accolade Wines to implement and sustain a new operating model quickly with minimal disruption. At the end of the workshop, Crimson & Co will run a wine competition in conjunction with Accolade Wines to give 2 lucky delegates the chance to win a case of Accolade’s finest wines.

Following on from the success of our client alumni event in November, Crimson & Co hosted an event at The Goring Hotel on Thursday 16th May 2013 in London. Crimson & Co’s client alumni is an invite-only network for clients and former clients designed to foster supply chain leadership.

Our spring alumni dinner was very well received by a number of new and existing members. Drinks were enjoyed in The Goring’s private garden with a hint of sunshine to take the chill off as we eagerly anticipated the arrival of our guest speak Mike Carson. Mike’s introduction to leadership styles and specific relevance to some of the key premier league football managers generated keen interest among the male and female audience.

A big thank you goes out to Mike for sharing some interesting insights and making the evening interactive and to all the client alumni guests who were able to attend. We would like to thank all our guests for such positive feedback, we will be announcing the details of our next event shortly.

LogiPharma 2013

Crimson & Co is delighted to announce that it is sponsoring the LogiCon, Europe’s first and premier Retail and FMCG supply chain leaders’ event.

Over 40 industry leaders will be sharing insight at the event on a range of topics including supply chain collaboration, supply chain support and best alignment, supply chain strategies and distribution models that will support expansion in Emerging Markets as CPG manufacturers and retails seek new growth opportunities.

As part of the event, Jonathan Gibson, Head of Logistics at Crimson & Co will lead a 45 minute workshop entitled ‘Above Market Planning – market complexity is exploding, can it deliver?’ Jon discusses how the drive for tax benefits, talent management and supply chain efficiency have driven varying degrees of Above Market Planning, and the organisational disruption of this has been viewed as a price worth paying. The standardisation this requires is contradictory to the growing complexity of the commercial environment.
