I need to develop an annual procurement plan for my company. What should I include? Are there any templates I could use to help me?
"Your plan should be multi-level, covering contract activity, supplier management function and internal development such as staff training.
A good starting point is to populate the plan from your contract register. This should be followed by a spend analysis to identify opportunities not covered by existing contracts that can be added to the plan. The supplier management element should be completed following a supplier categorisation exercise to determine where to focus your resources during the coming year.
The internal development component should come from individuals’ plans following the annual appraisal process, plus departmental objectives. There are templates on the internet but it is easy to create your plan using a spreadsheet. This may include the following headings: a short description of the requirement; whether it is goods, works or services; contract duration; estimated value; start date and who is managing it.
If you know your markets well and are confi dent enough, you could include target savings."
